Bouncy castles for school events in Winnipeg

Year-end fun days, sports days, fundraisers and winter carnivals: how to size a castle for 100 to 600 kids, run lines with volunteers, and plan an all-day rental.

A school event is a different job from a backyard party. There are 200 to 600 kids, a bell schedule, a field or a gym, a parent council budget, and one person who has to make it all work. This guide is for that person.

Everything here comes from the way these events actually run in Winnipeg schools: class rotations, volunteers at the entrance, and the June weather that can go either way.

June is the crunch. Most Winnipeg schools hold their fun day in the last two weeks before the end of June, so the same ten days get most of the year's requests. If your date is in June, booking in March gets you the castle you want rather than the castle that is left.

How many castles for how many kids

The number that matters is not the whole school. It is how many kids are on the castle at once, and how long each class gets. A medium castle comfortably takes 8 to 10 kids at a time; a large combo or obstacle course moves kids through faster because they go in one end and out the other.

A worked example for a 300-student K–8 school running a three-hour rotation:

  • 12 classes of ~25, each getting a 15-minute slot, is exactly three hours for one castle. That is tight, with no slack for a late class.
  • Two castles halves it: 12 classes at 15 minutes each across two units is 90 minutes, leaving time for a free-bounce period at the end for the older grades.
  • An obstacle course runs classes in races, two or four kids at a time, so a class of 25 can get through in 10 minutes.

A simple sizing guide:

StudentsRotationSuggestedPrice per 3 hrs
Up to 120One castle, 15-min slotsOne medium combo$275
120–300Two stationsLarge + Medium package (e.g. Obstacle Course + Medium Bouncer)$600
300–600Two to three stationsLarge + Large package (e.g. Electric Obstacle Course + Giant Slide), add a medium for K–2$700 + $275

Split by age. Kindergarten and Grade 1 do better on a Medium Bouncer or the Fun Tunnel on their own slot, away from the Grade 7 and 8 races on the obstacle course. The Fun Tunnel is 40 × 40 ft and 8 ft high; it takes a whole kindergarten class at once and nobody falls off anything.

Running lines with volunteers

We set up, walk your volunteers through the rules, and hand it over. One adult per castle at all times is the minimum; two is better on an obstacle course so one can start races and one can watch the exit. Give them:

  • A capacity number for the unit, which we give you at setup, and a timer.
  • The three rules: socks on, shoes off; no flips; no climbing walls or netting.
  • A shoe spot. A tarp or bench by the entrance. It sounds trivial; it is the difference between a line that moves and a line that stalls.
  • A rotation sheet taped to a cone by the entrance with class times. Teachers then manage their own class and the volunteer just watches the castle.

All-day rentals

Every price on the site is for a 3-hour window, and for most schools that covers the event. If you are running a full day (morning rotation for K–4, afternoon for 5–8, or a carnival that runs into an evening BBQ), ask for an all-day quote when you book. All-day rentals for schools, fundraisers and festivals are common for us. The blower runs the whole time; we come back at the end to take down.

Indoor or on the field

Field. The June default. We need a flat, mowed area, clear of sprinkler heads and goalposts, and either an outlet we can reach from the building or a generator, which we rent. Add 3 ft around the footprint for the blower and the line. Keep the castle out from under trees and away from the overhead lines at the edge of most school yards.

Gym as the rain plan. Book the gym for the same hours as the field. If the morning forecast is bad, we move inside; the indoor guide has the ceiling-height table. The one catch: the Giant Slide (24 ft) and the Monster Truck (22 ft) will not fit under most elementary gym ceilings, so if you want a rain plan that works for everything, build the plan around a medium combo and an obstacle course instead.

Winter carnival. Gym only. The Obstacle Course at 14 ft high is the race unit that fits most elementary gyms; pair it with a Medium Bouncer for the little ones.

Fundraisers and carnivals

Parent councils use castles two ways. The first is as the draw at a ticketed carnival: a wristband that covers unlimited bounces makes the line simpler than per-turn tickets. The second is as the reward for a fundraising goal ("hit $5,000 and the whole school bounces on the last day"), which costs the school one rental and tends to pay for itself several times over.

Two castles cost less than you would expect. The Large + Medium package is $600 for 3 hours, against $500 + $275 = $775 booked separately. Packages exclude the Monster Truck.

Booking checklist for a PAC or staff organizer

  1. Pick the date and a rain date or gym fallback.
  2. Count students by division (K–2, 3–5, 6–8) and sketch a rotation.
  3. Measure the gym ceiling to the lowest obstruction, or ask the custodian.
  4. Find the outlets nearest the field and the gym spot.
  5. Ask the office whether the division needs anything from the supplier before an inflatable comes on site.
  6. Line up two volunteers per castle per shift.
  7. Text (204) 232-8394 with the date, school, head count, hours and ceiling height. We hold the date and confirm what fits.

Our school picks

  • Obstacle Course
    $500 per 3 hrs · 38 × 20 ft · 14 ft high · Large

The race unit that fits most elementary gyms. Four-kid heats keep a class moving.

  • Electric Obstacle Course
    $500 per 3 hrs · 38 × 20 ft · 16 ft high · Large

Same race layout, taller. Field days and high-school gyms.

  • Giant Slide
    $500 per 3 hrs · 30 × 25 ft · 24 ft high · Large

The grade 6 to 8 magnet on a field day. 24 ft high, so outdoors or a field house.

  • Medium Bouncer
    $275 per 3 hrs · 27 × 20 ft · 12 ft high · Medium

Open floor for K–2. Pairs with any obstacle course.

  • Fun Tunnel
    $275 per 3 hrs · 40 × 40 ft · 8 ft high · Medium

A whole kindergarten class at once, 8 ft high, no heights.

  • UFO Bouncer & Slide
    $500 per 3 hrs · 42 × 25 ft · 22 ft high · Large

The one for a whole-school carnival. Kids spot it from the parking lot.

Quick answers

How far ahead should a school book?

For a June year-end event, book by March. The last two weeks of June are the busiest days of our year and the biggest castles go first. Winter carnivals in February and March have more room.

Can we rent for the whole school day?

Yes. Three hours is the standard price on each card; all-day rentals for schools are common and quoted on request. Tell us the bell schedule and we will quote it.

Do you supervise, or do we?

We set up and show your staff or volunteers how to run it. For a school event you can use your own volunteers to keep costs down. Plan on at least one adult per castle at all times.

Can you set up on the school field?

Yes, with a flat, mowed area and an outlet we can reach, or a generator we rent. Fields are a summer answer; from November to April plan on the gym.

Does the school need anything in writing?

Some divisions ask for a supplier's insurance certificate before an inflatable comes on site. Tell us if yours does and we will deal with the office directly.

Ready to pick a date?

Text or call (204) 232-8394 with the date, the spot and roughly how many kids. We will tell you what fits.
